Lumo has renewed its sustainability programme, which was implemented at the beginning of 2026. The update aims to make sustainability efforts more impactful, focus on the most relevant themes, and align the programme’s objectives more closely with the company’s strategy.
“We prepared the update to our sustainability programme alongside the renewal of the company’s strategy. We have made clear choices and will focus going forward on the themes that are most significant for our business and stakeholders, ensuring that sustainability is realised within the updated programme in line with our strategy,” explains Elina Ekelund, Lumo’s Sustainability Manager.
One of Lumo’s key strategic focus areas is investment in sustainable urban living.
“This links our sustainability work directly to the development of cities and the well-being of our residents,” Ekelund adds.
The new programme focuses on four main themes
Sustainable buildings and homes: Our goal is carbon-neutral energy use in our properties by 2030. In 2025, the carbon footprint of energy consumption per home decreased by almost nine per cent compared to the previous year, exceeding our five per cent annual target. Over the past five years, the carbon footprint of Lumo homes has fallen by a total of 60 per cent. In addition, we are reducing water consumption and improving the energy efficiency of our buildings, as well as increasing household waste recycling.

Comfortable and safe living: We invest in the safety and comfort of Lumo homes. Currently, 84 per cent of our residents consider us sustainable or very sustainable landlord. Our goal is for residents to feel that their homes and living environments are safe and comfortable. We support good neighbourly relations and smooth everyday living.

Modern and evolving workplace: We want Lumo to be a workplace where it is safe and rewarding to work, learn new skills, and achieve results. Our goal is a positive employee experience and a work community where everyone can be themselves. In 2025, our employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) was 46, indicating a high level of engagement and an improvement over the previous year.

Next steps
During 2026, the sustainability programme will be implemented across all Lumo operations. In spring, the programme will move into practical implementation with the involvement of our employees, and its impact on residents’ everyday lives will be clarified. The programme covers the period 2026–2030, and progress will be monitored systematically using six main indicators.
