Fire in Kalasatama, Helsinki on Saturday 23 May

A fire broke out on Saturday, 23 May 2026, in a residential building owned by Lumo Homes on Leonkatu in the Kalasatama district of Helsinki. Rescue and firefighting operations were initiated quickly by the authorities.

The fire was extinguished by Sunday morning, and fire authorities have inspected the building following the incident. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Residents are currently allowed to visit their apartments, but it is not yet possible to return to live in them. The damage to the residential building is extensive, and the property is currently considered unsafe for living. The building contains a total of 63 apartments and one commercial space.

We have worked in close cooperation with rescue authorities and focused on providing residents with guidance and arranging the necessary support. Temporary accommodation and active support have been offered to residents, and they have also been directed to crisis support services.

We would like to thank the rescue authorities, the City of Helsinki crisis services, and our partners for their swift response in this unfortunate situation. We will continue to actively communicate with and support residents as the situation progresses.
