Lumo Homes’ climate work receives international recognition
The Financial Times, a leading European business newspaper, and the German research company Statista have published the 2026 list of Europe’s Climate Leaders. Lumo Homes has been included in the list for the second consecutive year.
A total of 600 companies were selected for this year’s list, of which 33 are real estate sector companies. There are 30 Finnish companies included. The ranking brings together European companies that have reduced their greenhouse gas emissions the most relative to their revenue over the period 2019–2024.
Lumo reduces emissions from its properties by improving the energy efficiency of buildings and utilising low-emission energy solutions. Key measures include, among others, heat pump solutions and demand response in district heating.
Emissions from district heating account for the largest share of the carbon footprint of residential energy use. Lumo uses fossil-free property electricity in all its buildings, which is used, for example, for lighting in common areas and yards, ventilation, as well as the operation of building saunas and laundry facilities.
Emissions reduction work is progressing according to plan: Lumo is already more than halfway towards achieving carbon-neutral energy consumption in its properties, and the carbon footprint per apartment has decreased by 60 per cent over five years.
“In climate work in the real estate sector, the ability to reduce emissions from the energy consumption of the existing building stock is essential. We have worked systematically towards this for many years, and it is great to see this work once again reflected in international comparisons,” says Elina Ekelund, Sustainability Manager at Lumo Homes.
Background to the Europe’s Climate Leaders comparison
The Europe’s Climate Leaders list is an annual ranking published by the Financial Times and Statista, which assesses the development of European companies’ greenhouse gas emissions relative to their revenue.
The ranking is based on companies’ reported direct emissions and emissions from purchased energy (Scope 1 and 2). Its aim is to identify companies that are committed to climate targets, have succeeded in reducing their emissions, and report their progress transparently.
The Europe’s Climate Leaders 2026 list has been published on the Financial Times website.
